Review of 2014

The UCLan Event Management programme enjoyed a very successful, but very busy, 2014.

We forged new links with Rock FM's Cash for Kids charity which saw our undergraduates volunteer at a variety of events. First Year students raised nearly £2,000 – an outstanding achievement!

Our links with Barnardo's have continued, with Second Year students raising a record £4,087 from some excellent events.

In addition, events organised by final year students made a substantial contribution to the total raised for the Green Gecko Cambodian charity.

Students have enjoyed field trips to Cyprus and Cambodia as part of their studies and also to Wales for team building events. An optional Dark Tourism module also offered students the chance to travel to Poland.

We always encourage students to gain practical experience of Event Management, whether by volunteering or by undertaking a 48-week placement.

In 2014 we had students volunteering to work at events such as the UCLan Careers Fair, Lancashire Science Festival, LUBMAT international conference, Wilkinson's Digital Splash Photography event, Lancaster Fireworks, Lytham Proms, the Isle of Wight Festival and many more.

Events students are also currently on placements with a variety of organisations including Disney, Bentley Motors, Hays Recruitment, Lancashire Fusilier Museum, UCLan SU, UCLan Research and Innovation, Team Spirit UK, Liverpool Culture and the Villa Group.

Event Management had a 100% pass rate for the BA (Hons) degree last year, with a record 14 First Class degrees awarded.

Many students have gone on to gain excellent jobs with Liverpool Culture, British Airways, Rapier Group Events, Shush Media, Manchester Airport, Bread and Honey (based at Facebook HQ), Horse of the Year Show, National Gymnastics Centre, and Events internships at UCLan. Others have travelled further afield and are working for events companies in New Zealand and the USA.

News has also reached us of Alumni who've gained excellent jobs including Event Manager roles at Facebook, the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, Eaves Hall, The Great Hall at Mains, The Lowry, Forbes Solicitors, Jongleurs Comedy Club, Manchester United, Great John Street Hotel in Manchester and Schillings.

Other Alumni have returned to academia, with several undertaking postgraduate study.Students have already accepted 48-week placement opportunities with Disney and Old Edwards Inn and Spa in the USA for 2015/16, whilst others are being offered a variety of exciting paid and voluntary work experience opportunities. 2015 is going to be another busy year!
