Event Management undergraduate Aimee Cairns boosted her future career prospects with some stellar work for a showpiece science fair.

Aimee undertook an internship with the Engage UCLan team who coordinated the recent Lancashire Science Festival held at the University.

She was tasked with managing school groups, which included creating a booking system, scheduling, handling enquiries, assembling school packs, risk assessments, arranging parking/directions, creating personalised itineraries for each school and liaising with teachers about their visit. Aimee also assisted with the creation of an Eventbrite page, marketing and social media.

The Festival was bigger and busier than ever this year, and during the event Aimee was responsible for welcoming school groups, managing volunteers and student ambassadors to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Aimee says she was delighted to work on the project: "I appreciate the opportunity to be such a big part of the Lancashire Science Festival this year and I'm so happy it was such a huge success. My favourite part about the three day festival was seeing the children be so enthusiastic about science and of course Titan the Robot!"

Jo Heaton, UCLan’s Public Engagement Manager, commented: "Aimee has been an absolute star and such a fantastic addition to the team. She has turned her hand to so many diverse roles, from administering schools bookings to cocktail waitressing.

"She also dealt with awkward teachers, mustered volunteers and mastered online ticket management system. Aimee has consistently been an absolute joy to work with, with exemplary customer service and real team spirit."

Over the three day festival Events students Amie Birkett, Naomi Wells, Olivia Guerra-Gresham, Harriet Speakman and Karya Worden volunteered to work as ambassadors, guides, receptionists and on the souvenir stall, gaining valuable practical experience to add to their CVs.
