Variety is the spice of life for Aimee

A 12-week internship at UCLan has paid off for BA (Hons) Event Management undergraduate Aimee Cairns, who defied the current job market to secure an industry placement.

At the end of her second year on the course, Aimee undertook an internship working with UCLan's PR and Alumni Team, practically applying and developing the skills learnt on her course.

The extra industry experience paid dividends as Aimee has secured a series of short and varied placements lasting a total of 12 months, including Leyland based venue dressers, Creative Cover Hire, and Bury-based company Qube Events.

During her three months working at UCLan, Aimee played an integral role in many of the University's high-profile corporate events. Mid-June saw the University's Creative Focus Awards and Graduate Fashion Show, held to celebrate the achievements of UCLan's final year students, undertaking a creative degree. Aimee was at the forefront of the events, meeting and greeting VIP guests including the High Sherriff of Lancashire and UCLan Honorary Fellows, including impressionist Jon Culshaw.

Aimee was instrumental, both in front and behind the scenes for the Lancashire Science Festival in late June, helping turn the campus yellow with the creation of banners and bunting for the Festival, before playing host to VIP guests at a celebratory opening event.

UCLan's annual charity walk across Morecambe Bay took place on 30 June, in support of the University's Harris Bursary Fund and the NSPCC. The 500 walkers were led by Cedric Robinson MBE, who is celebrating his 50th year as the Queen's Guide to the Sands, with Aimee at his side as he led the walkers.

Just before leaving University to take up her post at Creative Cover Hire, Aimee spent five days at Preston's Guild Hall, undertaking ushering duties as 4,300 graduates donned their cap and gown.

Reflecting on her time working at UCLan, Aimee commented: "I thoroughly enjoyed working on these fantastic events and gaining more and more experience in the industry. I am over the moon to have secured these placements and I'm really enthusiastic about the range and calibre of events I will soon be working on."

Tania Callagher, Corporate Events Manager at UCLan, said: "We're all thrilled Aimee has managed to secure a year's placement. She was enthusiastic, committed and a pleasure to have on the team. She played her part in making our events this spring such a success."
