An engineering company might not initially appear to be the ideal place for an Events student to be on a 48 week placement, but Jasmine Moore has proved that it sometimes pays to think ‘outside the box’.
She is
currently working alongside the Global Head of Marketing at AESSEAL which is
based in Rotherham. Multi award-winning AESSEAL is one of the world's leading specialists in the design and manufacture of
mechanical seals and support systems which are used in a wide range of pumps
and rotating equipment worldwide to prevent liquids and gases escaping
into the environment.
Although
as part of her induction training Jasmine had to demonstrate her ability to
assemble a mechanical seal (a skill which will no doubt be useful one day) her
role is in the Marketing Department.
Jasmine explains: ‘I am the chief
editor of the company newsletter which comes out monthly; the administrator for
customer training and some employee training; I order merchandising items and
organise the translation and printing of advertising literature and I am
working on updating departmental procedure instructions. I have been
responsible for this year’s company calendars from start to finish. AESSEAL
also has a large programme of events and I am responsible for organising our
participation in various STEM events which are aimed at encouraging children
and young people to consider engineering as a career.’
Jasmine
is enjoying her placement:
‘I enjoy it all. It’s an unusual placement for an Events student but it’s something unique and I love learning something new every day.’
