Students make a difference to local kids

First Year Event Management undergraduates raised over £3,000 after organising a series of events in aid of a local children's charity.

The students worked in groups to devise, plan and deliver the events, placing their learning into 'real-world' situations whilst raising money for Rock FM's Cash for Kids project.

The charity lends a helping hand to disabled and disadvantaged children by means of a grant giving process. Grants are awarded in the local region to go towards buying specialist equipment for children to enhance their quality of life.

Cash for Kids Charity Manager Nikki Thompson said she was delighted with the amount of money raised: "We are absolutely amazed by the work ethic of the UCLan Event Management students who've worked so hard in aid of Lancashire's children.

"Not only have they raised awareness of our charity in the wider community, they've also raised an incredible amount of money that will make a real difference to the lives of children living right here in Lancashire.

"We're so proud of them all and know they will make fabulous Event Managers in the future. We'd like to say a special thank you to Rod and Lynn Train for their continued support of our charity and for sharing their vast event knowledge with us. We cannot wait for next year."

Events organised included Caribbean Night, Fiesta Mexicana, Casino Night, a Mad Hatter's Cocktail Party and Zoo Garden – a zoo-themed club night based on the famous Ibiza Zoo Project which broke the records for the highest number of people at an event (202) and the total amount raised (£1,219).

Student Jade Anderson helped coordinate the Mad Hatter's party. She said: "Doing our event has allowed us to see the best ways to work as a team and create something that gave us the massively rewarding feeling of raising money for Cash for Kids."

Course Leader Rod Train added: "The creativity of our students never fails to amaze me. They've organised some fantastic and professional events which raised £3,315.88 for Cash for Kids and we are so proud of them all."
