Jade scoops Team Spirit award

The UCLan Event Management undergraduate programme is one of the highest ranked in the UK and we're proud of our links to many of the industry's top employers.

The Team Spirit Event Management Prize is one of a number of incentives on offer to our students, and the high level of this year's results has seen them make awards to two of our graduates in 2014.

Jade Winders joined fellow First Class Honours graduate Sian Waller in receiving the coveted prize from Team Spirit's Katie Hodson, with her impressive work during a 48-week placement being deservedly rewarded.

We spoke to Jade to find out more about her time at UCLan and her plans for the future: "Before attending University I studied A-Level Law, Film Studies, Art and Photography at Preston College whilst working for Heathcotes Outside - a company providing fine dining for events across the North West. I enjoyed the 'specialness' of events - the fact that every event was unique and in a different venue. Events were exciting for me and this is what led me to choose to study Event Management at the UCLan.

"The course has given me a broad knowledge of the industry, managerial techniques and planning processes. Since studying at UCLan I've become confident in my abilities and I've grown as a person. I most enjoyed the practical modules in which I organized charity events. In the first year of my degree, as part of the module Event Operations, I organized a Western themed dinner for over 50 delegates, which raised approximately £400 for Cancer Research UK.

"My passion for events was strengthened during my placement year at Team Spirit. I mainly worked in the sales office, creating bespoke proposals for clients, contacting suppliers, researching new ideas, venue finding, negotiating prices, producing paperwork and other clerical duties.

"Along with working in the sales office, I also worked on over 60 events for well-known clients such as Virgin Media and Dunnhumby. These events helped develop my practical skills such as: rigging events, creativity, AV and lighting production, van driving, customer service and communication. I also received the 'Placement Spirit Award', which is awarded to the placement student that has performed well that year.

"Now I've graduated from University I intend to take a year out to travel. The world is my oyster and I can't wait to experience some new cultures. My ultimate goal is to work for a top event management company, organising creative events in amazing venues around the world."
