Student secures cultural placement

UCLan Event Management undergraduate Kate Gilston is currently on a 48-week work placement with Liverpool Culture.

Kate is passionate about Liverpool and events, so this is the ideal placement for the final year student.

She works with the City Events Manager as an Events Assistant, a role which has seen her plan and prepare for a range of high-profile events.

We spoke with Kate to find out more: "I love this placement - I couldn’t work with a better group of people. I worked as Event Control Manager for the Liverpool International Music Festival (LIMF), where we had performers ranging from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to The Charlatans.

"I'm looking forward to working on that again this year, but this time I'll be taking a different role and getting more involved with the artists. The LIMF won the award for Best Cultural Event at the Juice FM Awards and I got to go to the awards ceremony. It was good to dress up and experience an event as a participant rather than an organiser. I'd recommend a placement to everyone, especially one with Liverpool Culture."

Kate has just helped with Liverpool's Chinese New Year celebrations, while later in the year she will work on the River Festival and the First World War commemoration events which see the return of the 'Little Giant Girl' to the city.
