Event lecturers attend prestigious conference

UCLan Event lecturers Rod and Lynn Train recently attended the International Conference on Events (ICE) and 10th AEME (Association of Event Management Educators) Forum held at Bournemouth University.

Attendees included academics and industry representatives from a host of countries including Australia, America, South Africa, Canada, Macau, Italy and Finland.

The conference was opened by the Vice Chancellor of Bournemouth University John Vinney and School of Tourism Dean Keith Wilkes. This was followed by Nick de Bois MP, Chair of All Parliamentary Group who delivered a Keynote presentation on “The importance and challenges of event policy, practice and education”.

The three days of the conference were a mix of academic paper presentations on a range of event-related subjects. There were Keynote presentations from industry experts such as Alistair Turner, PR Director of Davies Tanner who spoke about ‘Britain for Events’ and Fiona Pelham, Director of Sustainable Events Ltd. Academic Keynote presentations came from Don Getz and Leo Jago, while there were numerous opportunities for discussions and networking.

In addition to the conference, the delegates enjoyed welcome drinks at a local wine bar, a beach themed evening at Bournemouth Pier and a Gala Dinner at Compton Acres (pictured above), all of which provided further opportunities for networking and building new relationships that will be beneficial for future research and ultimately our students.
