Events Students Celebrate Barnardo's 150

As part of their ‘Events in Action’ module, our second year Events students plan, organise and deliver their own events to raise money and raise awareness for Barnardo’s. 2016 marks 150 years since Thomas Barnardo founded the charity so to recognise this anniversary, a group of students decided to set themselves a series of sponsored challenges which collectively add up to 150.

The group: Cloudia Mayor, Kira Beaumont, Lucy Carter, Lisa Ingham and Gracie Donoghue completed the following challenges over a two week period:

Cloudia and Lucy cycled from UCLan SU to Fleetwood Marine Hall via part of the Guild Wheel, a combined total of 100km;
Lisa and Kira each completed a 10 mile fell walk in the Lake District, beginning and ending in Rydal and incorporating part of the Fairfield Horseshoe;

Lisa abstained from chocolate for 14 days;

Gracie managed a 6 hour silence (which anyone who knows Gracie will agree is a major achievement);

Lisa, Kira and Lucy did 10 minutes of hula hooping.

At the end of their challenges, the group held a celebratory event in Source where they announced that they had raised an amazing £800 for Barnardo’s.

Group member Lisa Ingham spoke for everyone when she said: ‘We enjoyed all of the challenges and it was good to do something in our local area. The challenges really put the fun into fundraising.’
