Placement Information

Our undergraduate courses provide many opportunities to gain valuable work experience – both in the UK and overseas.

Kenzie Baldock spent a year at Disney and had this to say about her placement:
“The number of people you meet and work with from all over the world, being immersed in a fantastic atmosphere and gaining exceptional communication and customer service skills, has proved invaluable for my personal development. I was initially allocated an Operations role on Main Street in Magic Kingdom which involved coordinating parades and fireworks and ensuring Health and Safety regulations were adhered to. My final role in Front Desk & Concierge also required allocating meeting rooms, processing invoices and helping the frontline events team when necessary. I know I’ve received interviews predominantly on the basis of my placement which has done wonders for my CV and forms a basis for discussion during interviews as employers are always impressed.”
Jade Winders and Shauna Greensmith undertook a 48-week work placement with Team Spirit -one of the UK’s leading team-building and event management companies. Jade formulated bespoke event proposals for a variety of high-profile clients, while Shauna was tasked with the preparation of events.

As a result of her placement, Jade feels she has gained confidence in negotiating with suppliers and developed her creative skills:
“I think one of the most important things I’ve developed at Team Spirit is my knowledge of the event management. I now have an insight into how the industry works, from selling, planning and running events, along with how to interact with venues, suppliers and clients.”
Shauna was involved in the delivery of many events for high profile clients such as PepsiCo, Virgin Media and Marriott and she even had the chance to work on an event in Alicante:
“The opportunity to be involved in both the planning and execution of events, has helped me to put the theory I learned into practice and has increased my understanding of the importance of the key aspects of event planning.”
Sian Waller had a year-long work placement as an Event Assistant with Liverpool Culture Company. She provided assistance to the Event Manager to successfully plan and operate major public events. Sian also worked for 2 days per week at St George’s Hall, where she is responsible for liaising with customers to organise large events such as the Women’s Hospital Annual Ball.

The placement increased Sian’s project management skills, improved confidence in communicating at different levels and gave her valuable experience of negotiation and conflict resolution.
“The opportunity to gain work experience in such an organisation opens up many doors within the event industry,” said Sian. “My placement has certainly enhanced my view of the events sector and intensified my enthusiasm for the field in which I am determined to pursue a successful career.”
Alice Blakey’s placement was in Events and Sales at The Heart of England Conference and Events Centre near Coventry

Alice (right) feels this allowed her to build sales experience and to develop her skills and knowledge in all areas of the organisation. This will help her in her final year at University and in future job applications.

Her work on so many different events has given her valuable experience of some of the many facets of the events industry. Alice said:
“Through completing a placement at the Heart of England, I hope to have gained a better idea of which sector within the events industry I would like to work in after University. In addition, I hope my varied experience will set me apart from other students looking to enter the industry.”
